IIJS.Where Business Happens!
The 39th edition of IIJS Premiere 2023, organized by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), concluded with an overwhelming response generating its highest-ever business. The second largest gem & jewellery fair of the world had 50,000 plus visitors at the two venues:
1) JIO World Convention Centre (3-7 August)
2) Bombay Exhibition Centre, NESCO, Goregaon (4-8 August).
The fully digital IIJS Premiere accommodated 3,250 stalls and welcomed 1,850 exhibitors. The event witnessed more than 2,100 visitors from over 65 countries. The grand show was marked with the distinguished presence of Shri Sunil Barthwal, Commerce Secretary, Department of Commerce; Mr Mike Hankey, Consul General, Consulate General of USA; Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA; Mr. Paul Rowley, Executive Vice President, Diamond Trading, De Beers Group; Mr. G.R. Radhakrishnan, Managing Director, GRT Jewellers India Pvt. Ltd.; Mr. C K Venkataraman, Managing Director at Titan Company; Mr. G.R. Ananthapadmanabhan, Managing Director, GRT Jewellers India Pvt. Ltd.; along with GJEPC committee members.
Let me take you through a few of my discoveries from both venues:
My first stop was by Shiv Narayan Jewellers and I am delighted to introduce the masterpiece ‘SHRI ANANTH PADMANABHASWAMY,’ dedicated by them to Dr B . Govindan, Chairman of Bhima Jewellers, Thiruvananthapuram
Inspired by the marvellous idol that resides in the Shri Ananth Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, the jewel depicts every feature of the original. Lord Vishnu is portrayed in the same Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) position with his hand resting on top of a Jyotirlinga (Lord Shiva) with Lord Brahma atop a lotus rooted in his navel.
The masterful depiction encapsulates the beginning of time as told in ancient Indian scriptures. The Shri Ananth Padmanabhaswamy Jewel measures 8in in height and an astounding 18in in length. The masterpiece is handcrafted by 32 people working 16 hours every day for 2 months and weighs 2.8kg and is embellished with around 75,000 high-quality diamonds, approximately 500 carats, and the finest Columbian emeralds and natural Burmese rubies.

Gemological Institute of America
As a proud GIA Alumni and a Diamond Graduate from the Gemological Institute of America, it was my pleasure to be invited by the team GIA India booth at the Jio World Convention Centre
One of the most important aspects of gemstone education is examining, identifying and grading precious gems. At the GIA India booth, it was an enriching experience to learn about Gem Identification and explore the captivating world of gems and diamonds. This experience reminded me of my days when I learned about natural diamonds, their formation and their cut, color and clarity determining.

The necklace featured above is meticulously handcrafted with sheer excellence and fine craftsmanship and the designs symbolize the perfect amalgamation of the timeless charm of grace and the dynamic energy of contemporary aesthetics, resulting in a harmonious fusion!
Royal Jewels Jaipur is renowned for handcrafting masterpieces with meticulous attention to detail and the best quality gemstones. I recently had the privilege of visiting their factory in Jaipur and witnessing the making procedure of the jewels by their expert team of artisans, and at the IIJS Premiere Show, it was a delight to see the same pieces turned into finished products. My heart is filled with appreciation for the expert team of artisans at Royal Jewels who bring these pieces to life!
Inspired by Mother Earth! Presenting “Gifts of Mother Earth collection!

Brooches have been worn for centuries as a fashion statement. They allow individuals to express their personal style and taste, and add a touch of elegance to the attire. Aqua Jewellers presented a stunning array of brooches from sheer to heavily studded brooches, to simple ones for every festivity embellished with the finest gemstones and handcrafted with meticulous detailing.
Delighted to introduce the new collection RHEOS “The Flow Of Mizu.” by House Of Sparsh. RHEOS – The Flow Of Mizu is a collection that specifically explores the beauty of “Jal” (water). This collection embodies the finesse and beauty of the depths of the world that flows despite its boundless obstacles. It explores the numerous qualities of a woman as both water and women can flow and find their path through hardships and hurdles. Just as the water’s rapid flow cannot be stopped and it always finds its way, a woman too looks above her problems and finds a new path. Similar to how water adapts to the colours of its surroundings a woman too blends well with her surroundings.
The art of Jadau jewellery making requires exceptional skill and craftsmanship and each piece of Jadau jewellery is unique, that showcases the mastery of the artisans and the timeless beauty of this traditional Indian art form. At Valentine Jewels, I witnessed the fusion of traditional techniques and contemporary aesthetics.

PLATINUM is known for its lustre, strength, durability and its ability to withstand daily wear without thinning. It was my pleasure to meet Mr Pramod Mehta of Shineshilpi; who shared his insights on opportunities in Platinum Jewellery and his latest collection!
Mr Pramod shared: “The major population of India is between 15 to 45 years generation and they like Platinum. In my opinion, there will be a great market for Platinum Jewellery in the coming years. This time at IIJS we are launching Women Platnum Jewellery, which will be appreciated by the retail outlets and the end consumers for the upcoming wedding season”. He further added; “Today’s working women like wearing pendant sets, rings and bangles, we have designed a complete set which will be admired by the women”
